Worn Thin Road Ahead

Shortly after the US started issuing Stay At Home orders, Youngblood Records ran a 50% off sale in their webstore. I remembered seeing a Justice test press in the store a couple weeks ago, and quickly jumped in with hopes of scoring a good deal. Unfortunately, someone got to that test press for the Escapades record before me, but since there was a Worn Thin test still available, I wasn't walking away empty handed.

I don't really spend a lot of time or money chasing test pressings these days. I have plenty of other records to focus on chasing, however when a good deal comes along, I'm not going to let it pass me by...and since Long Road Ahead is my favorite Worn Thin record, it just made good sense to grab this when I had the chance.

No special cover for this test. Just a Youngblood test press sticker in the lower corner and stamped record labels.

Limited to 18 test pressings.

Once I had the test press for Long Road Ahead, I was only missing the record release pressing. When I discovered that a Discogs seller had one available for only $10, I snapped it up and completed the collection for this 12 inch.

I've always loved the look of this spray painted record release cover, and as an unexpected bonus, it happens to turn 15 years old this month.

Not including the test pressings for the 7 inches, I think that I'm only missing the record release cover for the first 7 inch. Close enough to complete to warrant a group photo.

Worn Thin And Cheap

Last month I won a few Worn Thin records and was feeling pretty good about my 7 inch collection for the band. I really wasn't sure what I was missing for these 7 inches, and Marcus was good enough to point out that I needed a solid orange copy of the first record. Not only did he provide this information, but he also followed it up a week or so later with a link for an eBay auction for this very piece of vinyl that I needed.

The thing was, I'd just dropped a huge chunk of change on a UK Vertigo swirl pressing for Sabbath's Paranoid album. The wallet was feeling thin, and I'd vowed to stay away from eBay for a while...but then Marcus said that the record probably would top out at $5.00. While he didn't say it outright, I could tell from the tone of his email that he was basically calling me a pussy if I didn't buy this. Not to have my manhood challenged, I stepped up and won the record for a dollar. Saved face, and got a great record at a sweet price. Win/win.

Time to focus on the Worn Thin 12 inch, and work to complete this collection.

Youngblood Thinner

I recently had my eye on some Worn Thin vinyl on eBay. I figured that kids today might not have this band on their radar, and for a second, I gave though to providing a wake up call and posting the auctions on Vinyl Noize.

Whoa! Slow down a second. I need some of this shit. I hoped that maybe I could make a run at some of them, and help build up my anemic Youngblood collection for cheap. In the end, I found myself finishing off my collection of the Remnants 7 inch.

First up is the regular white vinyl press from the second pressing. Limited to 362.

A steal at 99 cents.

The next 99 cent deal on deck is the tour press on white vinyl. This one comes with the special tour lyric sheet.

As another way to differentiate the white vinyl pressings, the dust sleeve for the tour press is also stamped and numbered. 126 out of 138.

The heavy hitter out of this bunch is the record release pressing on clear vinyl with the special vellum cover. This one was for high rollers only...winning bid...$8.

The vellum cover lays nicely over the inside cover that was stamped and numbered for the record release.

Number 31 out of 100.

I started pulling out my Worn Thin 7 inches to see where the collection stood and figured that I'd snap a group photo. Youngblood 7 inch is complete, but I have no idea what may be missing for the self titled Malfunction 7 inch.

Golden Gloves

I was kicking around in the REVHQ store a month or so ago...undoubtedly picking up more of those damn REV represses...and while in the new releases section, I stumbled upon a listing for the first Worn Thin 7 inch on colored vinyl.

I found it odd that this was listed as a New Release. It was originally released back in 2001, and I would have been surprised if Malfunction Records was doing another pressing of this 7 inch. Since I only owned a copy of this on black vinyl, it was an easy gamble to purchase this and see what it was.

Turns out it was the second pressing on gold vinyl. Hardly new at all. Most likely, Malfunction just found a few copies of these laying around and they threw them up in the REV store. Thanks. I'll take one.

Remnants Of What Could Have Worn Thin

After picking up another copy of the Lion Of Judah LP a couple months ago, I was reminded of how much I've neglected my mission in building a Youngblood collection. To try and remedy the situation, I started looking around on eBay and came across the Worn Thin 7 inch, Remnants Of What Could Have Been. Yeah, I didn't own a single vinyl copy of this record. Shameful.

Before Carlos sang for Police & Thieves, he was in Worn Thin. They were around in the early 2000's, and play a similar style to P&T. I don't listen to this band enough.

400 pressed on red.

Having originally purchased this on CD when it was released about 10 years ago, it felt pretty good buying the vinyl for this at $3.00 a piece. Every once in a while, I find that I don't have to pay through the roof for vinyl that I missed out on the first time around. Solid.
