Toxic Yellow Boombox

When I grabbed the new Angel Du$t record last year, I fully expected it to only get a few spins, and then collect dust on the shelf. I never thought that it would slowly climb my Best Of 2016 list and land in the top ten.

Seriously, this thing is catchy as fuck. For a couple of weeks, it was the first thing that I'd queue up for my drive into work. Great way to start the day.

Chris over at Unwavering Spirit ended up with a few copies of the new record with the tour cover when he caught them live recently, and instead of being douchy and flipping them to make money, he offered it to like-mined record nerds like myself. While I wasn't going to get caught up in chasing multiple pressings of this record, I couldn't turn away from the opportunity to grab this special tour cover. Unlike the Turnstile record release, this cover looks pretty damn cool.

Interestingly enough, the copy that Chris kept for himself and posted was on blue vinyl, and numbered out of 100. The copy that he sent me was a part of the second pressing on yellow, and numbered out of 200.

Rock The Fuck On

Because I've become a jaded old man, I had no fire for the new Angel Du$t record. A part of it may have been because they were no longer with React!, but if I'm going to be honest, as much as I enjoyed their last album, I just never feel compelled to give it another spin...hell, it has been nearly two years since I've last listened to A.D.. So with the new album ready to drop, I made assumptions that it was going to be too polished and poppy, I just didn't care to give it any of my time.

Like most new Hardcore records these days, I needed some serious prompting from friends to bother with it. This time around the push came from Sandwell. I was knee deep in Summer Punk tunes and with Mark's praise, I figured that maybe it was time to give the new album a listen.

Oh damn. Once again I'm proven wrong, because this record is a blast...plus that album title gets nominated for the best name ever.

When I was picking up a few records from Deathwish recently, I noticed they still had the exclusive red vinyl available, so I grabbed one. Limited to 500 on red vinyl.

Collecting Du$t

Like it or not, this blog captures everything that I'm buying, and it is an honest representation of where my head is at. I know that I've been sidetracked with a bunch of metal/rock vinyl lately, and I haven't paid very much attention to hardcore. I've got a lot more metal vinyl queued up to post here, but for now lets take a break with some Angel Du$t.

I absolutely loved the Angel Du$t 7 inch last year. Manic and snotty, with a rumble of pop punk running underneath it all. I was really looking forward to the LP this year, and hit up orders with React! and Reaper to make sure I grabbed every pressing available.

400 pressed on white vinyl that was only available through React!.

When the vinyl finally arrived, I had a good feeling about the album. The layout and design looked great...how could this record not be totally fucking cool? I slapped it onto the turntable and dropped the needle expecting big things. The first spin left me rather underwhelmed. That's okay...no need to panic...it took me a little while to get into the 7 inch, so maybe I just need to give it repeated listens. Two spins, three spins...man, there are some really great songs on here, but there are also a handful that fall really flat for me. Overall, I'm disappointed. We'll see if it holds up over the next month or so, but right now, it just makes me want to go back to listening to metal.

400 on clear vinyl that was exclusive to Reaper.

800 pressed on black vinyl. There was another 150 that were pressed on pink vinyl that Angel Du$t sold on tour. Pink is obviously the best color to own for this record, but I don't know if I really want to track one down at this point.

Getting Xtra Raw With RXR

Grabbed a few second pressings from REACT! recently.

The WarXgames 7 inch is a total ripper from start to finish. The first press was limited to only 500 pieces, so I'm not surprised to see another pressing for it.

Second press is limited to 150 on clear, 350 on red vinyl.

Man, I love the Angel Du$t 7 inch. I was listening to it the other day, and had to go back to my 2013 Top Ten list to see where I should have placed it in the year end ranking. This record is such a blast to listen to...I'd have to make room for it somewhere in there. Slam!

Second pressing is limited to 250 on blue, and 750 on yellow.

REACT! Week - Part Four: Angel Du$t

I'll admit, I was a little skeptical when I first saw the Slam video from Angel Du$t. There was a bit of hype on this new band, but seeing the video, I was kind of underwhelmed.

Here we are a few months later, and I've got to say that my opinion has changed. After receiving the vinyl in the mail, and listening to it a few times, I was hooked. It seems impossible for me to describe their sound...it is like some weird hybrid of Turnstile and The Damned. I don't know. It's weird and I'm loving it.

The record cover isn't much to look at, but I dig the nice crisp, clean design.

150 pressed on yellow. 200 on clear. 300 on white vinyl. There is also a black vinyl pressing, limited to 400...looks like I've got to get that too!
