New Organon

There has been some cool new metal records released this year, but one of the more anticipated records to come out, for me, has been the new Slough Feg album. The band released a teaser with the New Organon single last year, and I have been itching for the band to give us the full length album since then.

It has been about five years since I first heard Slough Feg, and I was introduced to them with the Digital Resistance album in 2014. That record came out of nowhere for me, and I was blown away by the band. I committed to diving into their back catalog at that point...covering eight albums...and while I loved what I was hearing, for one reason or another, I never pulled the trigger on more vinyl. I love this band, so it feels really good to finally add another record to the collection with New Organon.

But seriously...I need to get off my ass and get a copy of Down Among the Deadmen or something soon. My metal collection will be better off with more Slough Feg in it.

Slough Feg have such a unique sound, and I can't think of another band that sounds like them. I love this record. I'm not sure where New Organon is going to land in my Top 10 for the year, but I guarantee that it will be slugging it out somewhere in the top five.

Slough Feg 7 inch

It has been four long years since the last Slough Feg album, and my introduction to the band. It was cool to discover them at the time, and dig through some of the eight albums they had released prior to Digital Resistance. The band plays some pretty fucking cool traditional metal, with their own unique sound, so it was exciting news to discover that they band was releasing a new single in 2018.

I believe that Slough Feg are recording a new LP, and this single is just a teaser of what is to come...and if that is the case, I'm excited to hear what they deliver in 2019, because this New Organon song is excellent...just Slough Feg being Slough Feg.

The b-side cover song from The Police is kind of cool, but really, I just want more Slough Feg songs.

What The Feg?

I've been tuned into the Metal this year, and that includes the new shit as well. When people over on the Braveboard started giving high praise to the new Slough Feg album, my first though was, "What the hell is a Slough Feg"? What a weird fucking name. I would have never given this band a chance, except for a few Metal dudes talking about it as being an Album Of The Year contender.

When I first gave the Digital Resistance album a chance, I didn't know what to think. It had this weird Jethro Tull/Queen/Rush vibe...but with a harder Metal edge. What the fuck was this? It didn't fit into my mold of what Metal should sound like, and I wasn't sure that I really liked it...but it was intriguing enough to make me want to check it out again.

As it was slightly odd and different, it took me a while to get my head around the songs on this album. Now that I'm digging it, I'm really loving this. I can't think of another Metal band that has this sound. Refreshing.

Apparently the band have been around since the mid-90's, at times going under the name The Lord Weird Slough Feg, and Digital Resistance is their ninth studio album, but this is the only album of theirs that I'm familiar with. I can tell that I'm going to have to check out some of their earlier material soon.

Limited to 200 on purple with gray colored vinyl.
