Klear Kadavar

With Kadavar's 2015 release, Berlin, I worried that the band was going to go soft on us with their third album. There was no need for my apprehension, and while the album wasn't as doomy as their first two records, Berlin still brought some seriously great Heavy Rock.

If I was worried about Kadavar "selling out" with their last album, with Rough Times, they prove that I have nothing to fear. The first videos for Die Baby Die and Into The Wormhole, show that the band had really upped their doom game. Seems that a bunch of people are down on the album, but I'm loving this heavy sound.

Don't be fooled by the brightly colored clothes and silly hats...this is some dark shit.

Last Living Dinosaur

I was hesitant to get excited for the new Kadavar record this year. While I loved both their first self titled record, and the follow up, Abra Kadavar, I kind of expected a let down with their third album, Berlin. The band has gotten more exposure over the years, and I was worried they my try and force things to the "next level", and fuck up their heavy 70's Rock sound by injecting their sound with a bit of pop and too much polish.

I was wrong, and thankfully, Kadavar keep that heavy Zeppelin sound alive with this album.

When it came time for me to chase down a copy of this new record, it was released by Nuclear Blast, so of course there were eight different colored vinyl pressings to choose from. Of course I wasn't happy with any of the vinyl options from the Nuclear Blast store in The States. No, I really wanted the red and white split vinyl, since I thought it looked amazing next to the album cover...and this vinyl option was only available from Nuclear Blast's webstore out of Germany. Damn it. That vinyl looked so good, I couldn't pass it up, and I ordered a copy.

Very cool packaging with the sunglasses lens cut out cover, and a couple of different inserts to slide in behind them. Very well done.

Abra Kadavar

2013 has been a huge year for Metal so far. I already had strong Top 5 list for this year, and then Kadavar come along with their Abra Kadavar LP and force me find a place for them as well.

No big change in style from their impressive self-titled 12 inch from last year, as they keep cranking out great 70's inspired Rock in the same vein as Witchcraft and Graveyard.

I placed my order a little late, and missed out on the first pressing from Nuclear Blast. No big deal. I was content with the second pressing on "copper" colored vinyl.

Nuclear Blast has some cool new stickers showing the color of the vinyl and the number pressed. This one is numbered 75 out of 250.

Dissecting The Kadavar

I despise the radio, but I've found that I've started using my iphone to listen to my last.fm radio station after the gym each morning, when I've got the locker room to myself. I use last.fm to capture the stats for all the music I listen to, and they use that as the basis for what my radio station plays. Typically I play it safe, and set the radio to play only the songs that I have in my library. However, after a vigorous 7 mile run a few weeks back, I was feeling a bit adventurous, and I set the station to allow some new music to be played based on their recommendations for what I usually listen to.

While I was in the shower, I could hear this unfamiliar song playing from the radio. It had a great doomy 70's sound to it, that immediately had me thinking of bands like Witchcraft and Graveyard. I needed to find out who this band was that was playing, and quickly grabbed my towel and checked the screen on my iphone. The band is Kadavar and the song that's playing is All Our Thoughts. I can't wait to find more from this band, and after a quick search and download, I'm on the hunt to find some vinyl.

Already in it's fourth pressing, I was able to grab a copy on yellow vinyl. Limited to 1,000.
