Weapons Of Warbringer

I'd been collecting records for a few years when Warbringer released their first album, War Without End, in 2008, but up to that point, I was still basically buying new metal albums on CD. I'd been getting more and more back into metal, and with that first Warbringer album, I finally made the move to pick it up on vinyl. It was a big step in finally getting out of the CD buying trap for metal albums and making more of a commitment to record collecting.

Twelve years and six albums later, it is cool to see that Warbringer are still around and playing trash. I felt like they were one of the better bands back when the trash revival was going on back then, and they have definitely proved themselves along the way. With Weapons Of Tomorrow, John Kevill and the guys are still as potent as ever. It's great to see trash bands delivering a socio-political message like we got from thrash bands in the 80's.

I've bought every Warbringer album along the way, and I grabbed each on on colored vinyl. When I went to buy a copy of Weapons Of Tomorrow, I was only given the option of black vinyl. I thought it was odd, but I bought one anyway. Now that I've discovered that colored vinyl options exist, I'm kind of disappointed to have this one on black.

Before the release of the full length album, Warbringer released a single for Power Unsurpassed. I really wasn't interested in making a special purchase for this 7 inch single, but since it was available when I was picking up the album, I didn't mind adding a copy to the cart.

Shellfire

Warbringer released their first album back in 2008. At that time, the thrash revival was really starting to take off, with more and more bands trying to emulate those golden years of the mid to late 80's. I was loving it and chasing each new album that was released. For the most part, I was still buying CDs for most of my Metal purchases, but the tides were starting to turn in my buying habits, and I remember that debut Warbringer album as one of the first new Metal bands that I bought on vinyl.

In the middle of the thrash revival, I remember that Warbringer was one of the few bands that appeared to have the most promise. In 2017, they are now five albums deep, and can still thrash with the best of them. In fact, Shellfire may be the best thrash song you hear all year.

Bringer Of War

Last month, Rob, Paul and I took a quick roadtrip to Worcester to catch the Legends Of Thrash tour as it made it's one stop in Massachusetts. Both Overkill and Kreator were co-headlining, but in my opinion the night belonged to Overkill. I love those old Kreator records, and I'm even down with the new ones...but live, man, they just fell a bit flat. Overkill on the other hand, were just a tornado of energy...full of smiles and running all over the stage. They seemed to really love what they were doing.

I was trying to limit my spending, so at the merch table I had to decide between a sweet Overkill shirt (with a great looking Aerosmith rip off design that was made just for the Worcester show), or the new Warbringer vinyl.

Yeah, vinyl wins that battle every time.

Warbringer were one of those bands from the New Wave Of American Thrash that started kicking around in the mid to late 2000's. Not many of those bands from that era have been able to keep up with Warbringer, as they release their fourth album. While watching the band live, I found that I couldn't keep a smile off my face. They really embrace that whole 80's Thrash vibe, and once their set was done, I knew that I was going to have to pick up their new LP before the night was done.

After buying the vinyl, we started heading out of the club, and bumped into the singer on our way. We stopped and told him that they played a great set, and he was very appreciative and wished us well. As I was getting to my car, it dawned on me that I should have taken the opportunity to snap a picture with him and me, holding the new record. It would have made a nice addition to this blog post. Damn. Missed opportunity.

Warbringer III

To say that 2011 was a big year for Metal would be an understatement. I can't believe how many great albums I picked up this year, and many of them on vinyl. One of the most recent albums that I added to the collection was the third album from Warbringer, Worlds Torn Asunder.

The last two Warbringer albums were excellent, and this new one stays true to form. You can't miss with old school thrash. I love this style. Hey Mustaine, quit dicking around and try to release a Megadeth album that's as good as this.

When I purchased this album through CM Distro, it seemed like the only way I could insure that I got the colored vinyl was to order the package deal. It was expensive, and I'd end up with a shirt that I didn't really care for, but I did it anyway. Colored vinyl rules over black vinyl. In the end, CM Distro was sold out of my shirt size, so they reduced the price and I ended up with only the vinyl...which is what I wanted anyway.

Part of the package deal was the Living Weapon 7 inch single. Worth it for the Motorhead cover on the b-side.

Poserslaughter

Warbringer's new album, Waking Into Nightmares, was up for pre-order at CM Distro recently, and since their last album was one of my favorite metal releases in 2008, I didn't hesitate to pick it up. Another solid Thrash album from one of the leaders in today's Metal scene...limited to 1,000 on clear vinyl.

Another band that released their debut album in 2008 was Avenger In Blood. Since I was in a Metal mood when I ordered Warbringer, I also decided to finally pick up their album, Death Brigade, as well. The band could be could be Kreator's bastard child, as this album could easily find a place between Terrible Certainty and Extreme Aggression. This album was released on Heavy Artillery, and man, they do an amazing job with their vinyl releases. I was late to the party, so I only got the black vinyl pressing, but they also released it on a couple of different colors which fetch a pretty high price on eBay these days.

Bring It On

My recent obsession with metal continues to grow more and more. I find that I keep going back to listen to the classic thrash from my youth, digging out CD's from bands like Kreator, Destruction, and Sodom. I had heard a lot of good things about a new thrash band called Warbringer, and when someone tipped me off that their new album, War Without End, was available for pre-order, I took a chance on it. This album is really good. At times I'm reminded of the first Testament album, and on occasion I expect the band to start doing a cover of Over the Wall. This band recently played at Mark's Showplace in New Hampshire with Exodus, and now I'm kind of regretting that I didn't go. The new Exodus is really starting to grow on me, and now I feel like I should have seen them and Warbringer when I had the opportunity. Anyway, this album is pressed on red vinyl, and I believe it was limited to 1,000 pressed. When the record arrived in the mail, there was also a poster enclosed. Sam thought that the album cover was so cool, that he stole the poster from me to put up on his bedroom door. That boy knows how to make his father proud...I get a little choked up just thinking about it.
