Bells Of Awakening

Visigoth are a newer metal band that has taken me by surprise over the last few years. Both of their albums have landed near the top of my Top 10 list for the year they were released, so when it was announced that Metal Blade was releasing a new two song 7 inch from the band, I grabbed my shield and broadsword and went into battle.

These two songs don't stray from the path that Visigoth have already tread...just straight forward traditional heavy metal. This shit is epic...a triumphant battle cry for metal. Damn, I'm so glad that this band exists in 2019.

Metal Blade released a few different colors for this 7 inch. The US pressing on green vinyl...hand numbered and limited to 200...was good enough for me. Such a great single.

Steel And Silver

The 2018 new releases are starting to roll in! Three months into the new year, and I've only posted one new release, but checking my backlog of records that need to posted up here on the blog, and things are starting to pick up steam.

A couple of years ago, Visigoth came out of nowhere with their debut LP, and that thing kicked my ass. Their traditional metal sound really hit all of my buttons back in 2015, and that album rocketed up my Top 10 list. When I heard that Visigoth had a new album coming out this year, I preordered a copy without hesitation. Rather quickly, it made my short list of most anticipated releases for the year.

Man, this album is a solid follow up to The Revenant King. It starts off hella strong, and initially makes a case for being as good as the debut, but then things get a little shaky with Salt City, and even though they are trying for another Iron Brotherhood type anthem, it misses the mark for me, and therefore puts the album just a notch below their debut.

Limited to 300 on the clear with smokey blue colored vinyl. Damn, that vinyl color looks great!

Iron Brotherhood

There have been some great metal surprises this year...new bands that seem to come from nowhere and make a huge impact to what my Best of 2015 list might look like. These are the bands that make the chase still worth it. Hidden gems still exist, and if you put the work into it, it pays off.

Over the Summer, I was reading a thread over on the Bravewords board, where people were discussing their favorite traditional metal album for the year. Names like Enforcer and Armored Saint were being thrown around, along with some band I'd never heard before...Visigoth. I had initially paid the name no attention, but people on the board were making a pretty strong case for them, so I finally broke down and checked out their video for The Revenant King. The video itself isn't that great, but the song kicks my ass, and once I saw the singer sporting an Eternal Champion shirt, I was in...balls deep.

This record has a great Grand Magus feel to it, and seeing how high I thought of the last Grand Magus album, you can bet that this Visigoth album is rocketing up my Best of 2015 list.
