Doing It For Dave

Years ago, a wise man once uttered the phrase, "If you don't ask, you don't get". That advice really stuck with me, and I've put it to use a few times since then.

A couple weeks back, I was posting a picture of my incomplete Search collection to Instagram, and figured that I'd throw it out there that I was looking for the Vision sleeve. I didn't really expect any hits on it, but much to my surprise someone generously offered me their copy. He wasn't looking to flip it and make some easy money...nope...just was just asking for cost plus shipping. I couldn't have been happier to take him up on the offer.

Sadly, Dave Franklin from Vision passed away earlier this year. I'd never met him, but through the outpouring of messages from people about this loss, you could tell that Dave was one of those guys that everyone liked, and he seemed to have left nothing but positivity in his wake.

In April, the Hardcore scene came together for a memorial show in remembrance of Dave's life. To commemorate the occasion, Search packaged their 7 inch with a special cover that pays tribute to the Undiscovered 7 inch that Vision released back in 1988.

The packaging on this record is very well done. Such a great tribute.

This special cover is limited to 100, so once again, I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to have this in my collection.

Now that I have the full collection, I can bring them all together for the family photo.

Search Party

When I posted about the new Search 7 inch last month, I mentioned that it could possibly be one of my favorite records of 2017. So imagine my good fortune when a fellow blogger and amazing dude managed to score me a copy of the record release pressing.

There was no way that I was going to be able to get to this show, so having Chris put forth the effort to grab an extra copy for me, really means a lot. To not have to chase one of these down, and fight over it on eBay with the rest of the nerds...well, there isn't a price tag that you can put on something like that.

It is amazing how much of an impact a simple color change on the cover can be. I love that they didn't use a rip off cover for this. Just a change from blue to red. Looks great!

Hand numbered and limited to 60, so having one of these is kind of a big deal.

Nice touch including the show flier and stamping the date of the show on the inside cover.

When I first posted about the new Search record, I joked about how long it was going to take for REV to do a second pressing for this new release. Here is our answer...just a couple of months, and we get a second press on green. Thanks...I'll take one. 400 pressed.

Searchin' For The Light

Admittedly, I find myself struggling to keep in touch with what is going on in the Hardcore scene. However, even with my "old man" status, I'd still heard about the band Search. That is really not saying much, as you would have to be living with undiscovered tribes in Africa to have not heard about this band. Featuring members of Mouthpiece, Floorpunch, and Turning Point, it would be difficult to avoid all news about this latest Hardcore supergroup.

Expectations were high when this record finally arrived. For someone that has committed to focusing on picking up more classic vinyl releases, and avoiding the trap of multiple pressings of current records, I guess it says something about my high hopes when I ordered the vinyl on both available colors.

The record itself does not disappoint. I know we are only two months into 2017, but this is already a strong contender for my favorite Hardcore release of the year. Flawless.

280 on coke bottle clear, and 700 pressed on blue vinyl. The clock is ticking on when REV will throw another pressing up in the store.
