Psalms Of Brat

Last year I discovered Disembodied, and very quickly became obsessed with the band. I'd ignored them back in the 90's, but on a whim I decided to check them out last year and it was exactly what I needed. Both If God Only Knew and Psalms Of Sheol immediately took over my life, and Disembodied were easly my favorite discovery that year. That obsession hasn't let up in 2026. I started listening to their Diablerie album earlier this year, and I've been desperate to get my hands on the white vinyl version for it... and then along came the Psalms Of Sheol reissue which I apparently needed as well.
I have a few friends that really like Charli XCX, and for a time in 2024 our group chat was full of comments on her new album at the time, Brat. While I was able to enjoy stuff like Lana Del Rey and Lorde, I never really had that same kind of attraction to Charli XCX... well her song Guess was a lot of fun, but I didn't really spend any time with Brat.

While I was still riding my Disembodied obsession, Marcus sent me a message about a new pressing for the Psalms Of Sheol, and the test pressing that pays tribute to Brat. I immediately wanted it. The Brat design is iconic and since Disembodied have done a few of these kinds of rip off sleeves in the past, it was a great choice here... and personally, owning it felt like a good tribute to my Brat friends that know nothing about Disembodied.

After Marcus let me know that this test press existed, I just kept thinking about how nice it would be to own one... and since the label didn't seem to be announcing anything about selling them, I finally just sent Prime Directive an email asking about it. To my surprise, the guy wrote me right back and said that he would check to see if he had an extra. A week later he got back to me, letting me know that he did have one and he gave me a price. Without hesitation I sent the money. I have no idea how many were made of this test, but I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to own one.
I'm not sure if I would have ended up buying the Psalms of Sheol reissue, but since I owned the test press, it felt like a logical move.
The new cover design for the reissue looks cool, and it was only available on this splatter colored vinyl... which at least matches well. 200 pressed.
Things snowballed from there, and since I was buying the new reissue for the LP, it only made sense for me to pick up an original pressing off Discogs.
Three copies of Psalms Of Sheol picked up within a three week span, and there are still other versions that I would have grabbed if they were available.

Orange vinyl was limited to 333.

Disembodied Psalms Of UK

Early into 2025 I discovered Disembodied. I was only 25+ years late, but I eventually came around. I was certain that I didn't like the band after checking them out in the mid to late 90's. They were too metallic and too chaotic for my tastes at the time... and while I tried the band's first couple of releases, I quickly moved on and forgot about them. That all changed when I heard If God Only Knew The Rest Were Dead this year.
After listening to If Only God Knew... for a coupld of months, I needed more Disembodied. I remembered that I had their Existence In Suicide CD back in 1995, and I wanted to revisit it. At first I was disappointed to discover that it was never pressed on vinyl, but then after a bit of detective work, I found that it was included on the Psalms Of Sheol comp along with the song from The Confession 7 inch and few others. I queued up those songs and once again, Disembodied became my personality. I played those songs every day until every one in my house was probably familiar with them. If Disembodied don't top my list for most listened to bands this year, I'll be shocked.
Soon after hearing the Psalms of Sheol songs, I knew that I was going to need to buy the record. There are a number of special covers for this release, and I want them all. So when I saw a discogs seller from overseas with a copy of the UK tour press with the New Order cover I did not hesitate to grab it.
Number 41 of 50.

...The Rest Were Dead

Nothing compares to discovering old bands that I'd previously ignored or wasn't into at the time. While I loved a lot of different styles of hardcore and punk in the 90's, once bands started to become more metallic and chaotic, I usually stopped paying attention. I kind of liked the first Disembodied CD EP, Existance In Suicide when it was released, but by the time I'd picked up their Confession 7 inch the following year, I decided that they weren't for me and then spent the next 25+ years ignoring the band.
At the start of this year, someone that I follow on Instagram posted a live clip of Disembodied. It had been so long since I'd given the band any thought, but seeing them absolutely lose their shit while playing live suddenly had me interested to check them out again. I selected If God Only Knew The Rest Were Dead on Spotify because it looked like the earliest Disembodied record that was available for streaming, and I queued it up to listen.
With my first listen, I thought it was just okay... nothing really special... but by the third time through it, the song Gone got my attention, and once it was done I immediately went back and listened to that song 3 or 4 times in a row. By that point, I was hooked on how raw and real it sounded and I started to obsess over this record.
Around the time that I was really starting to dig this record, I ended up on a call to catch up with Marcus. Conversation obviously centered around record collecting... our unexplainable strange attraction to it and what we had been buying recently... and of course we started talking about this Dismbodied 10 inch. Here was a record that I'd only just discovered from a band that I had zero interest in two weeks prior, there was one colored vinyl copy available on Discogs, and I was prepared swallow the high price tag that it was listed for. I was desperate for this record, and I wondered if Marcus would be the voice of reason and could talk me down off the ledge before I did something stupid. Oh, he just bought a copy last year? Well fuck, there was no way that I was going to be able to resist now.
