Second Oversight

You know I'm a sucker for 90's hardcore right? And the more obscure the better. Like I should probably be out chasing Unbroken's Life Love Regret on blue vinyl, or something else that is equally important and crucial, but instead I'm over here grinning like a nut because I was able to pick up a record from 1992 that I imagine maybe a total of three people care about in 2026.

A few years ago I stumbled upon the band Oversight. They were a hardcore band from the Syracuse/upstate New York area in the early 90's, and I ended up discovering them as I was checking out what other bands Shane Durgee from Framework may have been involved with. I tracked him back to Oversight on Discogs and I was able to quickly pick up their 7 inch, After This Day, on grey vinyl. At the time, I noticed that there were a few other colored vinyl options for this record as well, but I wasn't sure if I really wanted to try and collect them all. Well, here we are a few years later and I was excited to find a blue vinyl version available and quickly snapped it up... so yeah, I guess I'm doing this.

Blue vinyl was limited to 100.

I still need that Justice Coming 7 inch from Framework, but until something becomes available, I guess that I'll just focus on my Oversight collection.

90's Hardcore Oversight

I've been listening to a lot of early 90's hardcore lately. This era has been hitting the 30 year anniversary, and I've found myself returning to those records again and again over the past few years. While I like to think that my collection of records from that era is fairly decent, I know that there are probably some bands that I totally missed out on at the time... so I'm always searching.

One of the bands that I recently discovered was Oversight. I probably should have been more aware of this band 30 years ago. I know that I have an issue of Extent fanzine with an Oversight interview... plus this is Conquer The World Records number one, so it is a mystery why it took until now for me to finally hear this band, but here we are. The thing that finally brought this band to my attention was that I've been listening to the Framework 7 inches a lot, and as I was digging into that band on Discogs, I noticed that the singer, Shane Durgee, had also been in Oversight. I immediately checked Soulseek, found the songs for the 7 inch and downloaded them. Fuck yes.

This is a nice find for me in 2023, and the grey colored vinyl looks sharp!

Culture - Born Of Blue

Over the Summer, I was listening to a lot of Foundation, and it influenced me to load up my daily playlists with a bunch of mid-90's hardcore...Earth Crisis, Chokehold, One King Down, and especially Culture. Seemed like I couldn't listen to Foundation without immediately following it up with Culture's Born Of You album.

I don't think that I ever really listened to this album that much when I bought the CD back in 1996. In fact, I think I've only listened to it once or twice over the past 15 years. These days though, I am loving this kind of Vegan Straight Edge stuff. Even though the album cover for this Culture LP is one of the worst, I still desperately needed a copy.

Mike Warden used to run Conquer The World Records, and when I saw that he had a copy of both the blue and the orange vinyl on eBay, my mission was to win one of them. Truth be told, I wanted both of them, but in the end I settled for just the blue vinyl pressing.

As is often the case, this dark blue vinyl looks better when held up against the light.
